  • Is massage painful?
It's not unusual to feel some soreness after a massage. This is due to a release of lactic acid in the muscles, but it doesn't last long. You may also have some discomfort during your massage. This depends on the area we're working on, any pre-existing pains, and the style of massage can greatly effect the level of comfort or discomfort you may feel. To learn more about how different massage styles feel and their purpose, visit our Massage Styles page.
  • Do I have to take all of my clothes off?
No! All our therapists will ask you to remove clothing only as far as you feel comfortable. If you only want to undress to your underwear, that's fine. The therapist will leave the room while you're undressing and will provide towels and blankets to cover you during the massage. There are some massages that work well if you want to remain clothed, so this is discussed before the session begins.
  • I am an athlete, how frequently should I have a massage?
The answer will depend on your goals. Some athletes have monthly maintenance sessions when they are training less, increasing the frequency as their training volume and intensity builds. The solution is always about finding what is right for you to reduce muscle tension and keep you injury-free. This is something we’ll discuss during your first assessment.
  • I have a sports related injury. How many sessions will I need?
Treatment options and the number of sessions needed will vary from person to person, so this will depend on your condition. Your condition is assessed in the Client Health History form you can fill out at anytime before your session. Recovery time may be reduced if you can make small tweaks to your day to day life and implement regular massage sessions into your schedule.
  • Will Sports Massage help my injury?
Yes. Sports massage is proven to reduce recovery time, sometimes dramatically, by shortening the time it takes for injuries to heal, and makes the after effects “better”. Sports Massage reduces the swelling and oedema associated with soft tissue injuries. Athletes often have a regular schedule for incorporating massage sessions. Learn more about the benefits of massage for Athletes on our Massage Styles page.
  • Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes, we allow cancelations that are over 24 hours before your scheduled session. If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled session, you will be charged in full for your session. Read more about our policies here.

Jamus offers a wide variety of styles with a focus on athletes and sports recovery massage. Each session is uniquely tailored to your needs after going over your health history and areas to prioritize, Jamus is able to provide a well-rounded session for anyone, even those who are not athletes.
